Writing: Organization

Sequencing Information

When you are writing a story or a paper, it's important to put your ideas into order. Many times, when you are telling a story or reporting facts about something, you will want to put your sentences into "sequence." That means "in a series" - one thing that follows another.

For practice, cut apart these sentences, mix them up, and then put them in order. Show your result to another student or adult. See if you agree on the sequence.

First, she and her friends went out for pizza.

It was Michaela's 14th birthday party and all her friends came.

When Michaela waved goodbye to her friends, they all wished they could stay longer.

Then they spent a half-hour playing laser tag.

Finally, they went to Michaela's house for cake and ice cream.
